Our Story
Droughtville Farms has been a small family farm since 1836

Droughtville Farms has been a small family farm since 1836. Our farm is rooted in tradition while we continue to sustain our farm for the future. The farm name comes from a small town in Ireland where my family is originated. Whenever we are out working on the farm we think of the hard work and dedication of the family that came before us.
In today’s farming world it is hard for a small farm to be successful. With this in mind, we utilize every square inch of our land to produce high-quality crops and raise specialty meats, birds and honey. We have a love of land and farming and by combining these practices we utilize cover crops and forage areas for the pollinators and wildlife. The cover crops help keep the land healthy while not allowing any fertilizer runoff, which protects our streams and rivers.
My standing joke is that 25 years ago my parents bought me my first 25 chicks and so it is their fault I have the love of poultry that I have today. All of our birds are raised humanely and held to a very strict standard. Our poultry includes many Heritage breeds that were once in every farmyard. These breeds are breeds that our great grandparents would have raised. They have a unique richness to their meat and produce sensational eggs. Although they might not lay as many eggs a year or take months longer to mature for meat as what you would buy in a supermarket… the quality is well worth the wait. Some of the breeds we raise are on the endangered farm animal list. Now you might think “why are they processing them for meat if they are endangered?” Well, the more people enjoy eating them the more breeding stock is needed and the breed numbers grow! You as a consumer have just helped sustain this breed for another generation.
If you are interested in raising your own heritage breeds, we also offer baby birds in the spring. We have many different breeds of chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys for sale.
You cannot have the birds without the bees and the flowers and the trees! We also love beekeeping and we want you to love it too! Beekeeping is a window into the beauty of nature. We sell honey from our own hives that have foraged on our land (and our neighbors). Did you know bees will efficiently fly up to 2 miles for food? Our honey is a mix of nectar from the whole season on blooming flowers. If just eating honey isn’t enough for you, we also sell bees, bees hives and any supplies you would need for the wonderful art of beekeeping. We are just a small bee farm and love to help New-Bee’s get started! But we warn you now…beekeeping is addicting and one hive is never enough!
We take great pride in everything we raise here at the farm and we look forward to sharing our tradition with you!
We invite you to enjoy our fresh poultry and honey or take home a Droughtville chick, duckling, gosling, turkey poult or beehive to raise for your enjoyment or table.
